How to choose between them

Both schools sit in one of Singapore's most competitive P1 registration corridors. Henry Park is the GEP feeder parents chase for academic prestige, while Pei Hwa's 130-year mission heritage attracts families who want values woven into daily school life, not just the curriculum.

Consider Henry Park Primary School if…

  • GEP centre means gifted kids get stretched without changing schools
  • Decades of strong academic results in a tight-knit Bukit Timah community

Consider Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School if…

  • 130 years of mission heritage means character education runs deep
  • Christian ethos appeals if faith-aligned values matter to your family

Pick Henry Park if academic ceiling is your priority; pick Pei Hwa if you want your child shaped as much by values as by grades.

Get to know each school

Henry Park Primary School

MOE records Henry Park Primary’s establishment on 23 March 1977 with 287 pupils and 13 teachers, followed by its official opening on 7 April 1978. It became a Gifted Education Programme centre in 1997 and moved back from a holding site after upgrading in 2013. These are milestones in the school’s development. They do not establish current class size or the admission arrangements of future cohorts. Its current Holistic Integrated Programme is a primary-school learning framework; the word ‘Integrated’ should not be confused with the secondary Integrated Programme pathway.

The ALP connects environmental science and sustainability with practical investigation. Primary 1 uses shapes and measurements to make recycled toys and bridges; Primary 2 explores flowers after an Orchid Gardens visit; Primary 3 practises fair testing and plant growing, including hydroponics. Primary 4 examples include investigating toy-car movement and cultivating rice. Interested or talented pupils can have additional garden, robotics or app-design opportunities. The page also labels butterfly, mushroom and aquaponics ideas as future plans, so those should not be presented as activities already available to every child.

Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School

Preacher Joseph Koh founded Road End Free School in 1889 to provide free education to children around Bukit Timah. Teaching changed from Teochew to Chinese in 1918, and the Pei Hwa name followed in 1922. The present building opened and SAP status was granted in 1992; the 1995 name change reflected the connection with Glory Presbyterian Church. After temporary relocation for PRIME upgrading, pupils returned in 2004. The school became single-session in 2022. Its Chinese Arts Programme and bicultural enrichment draw on this Chinese-language and Christian heritage, rather than making it a purely secular bilingual programme.

The general-information page records a 2024 review and the 2025 renaming of C3 to Voices@PHPPS, shifting from communication skills towards using a voice to advocate for a cause. The ALP activity page still uses the older C3 label. Its examples include Primary 1 voice projection and eye contact, Primary 2 posture and expression, Primary 3 storytelling using The BFG, Primary 4 persuasive speech using James and the Giant Peach, and Primary 5–6 readers’ theatre. These pages establish the stated direction and published activities, but do not supply a complete revised level-by-level Voices timetable.
