How to choose between them
Both are solid West zone schools, but they serve different families. Rulang's oversubscription tells you something real — parents vote with their Phase 2C ballots. Lianhua is the quieter pick for families who want a tight-knit community without the ballot stress.
Consider Lianhua Primary School if…
- Tight community feel, less Phase 2C ballot pressure
- Bukit Batok location convenient for families in that pocket
Consider Rulang Primary School if…
- 90-plus years of heritage and consistently strong academic culture
- Rich CCA programme gives kids more to explore from young
If ballot risk keeps you up at night, Lianhua is your peace of mind; if you want the name and the ecosystem, Rulang is worth the gamble.
Get to know each school
Lianhua Primary School
Lianhua began in 1946 as Lian Wah Public School, serving children whose schooling had been interrupted by the war. Its first temporary classrooms were on borrowed premises at Chinese High School. It became a government school with its present name in 1987, operated at Dazhong for a year, then moved to Bukit Batok Street 52. The 2015 merger with Hong Kah Primary brought another school community into the same site. These dates distinguish its older roots from the more recent combined school.
The current Coding for Sustainability ALP sets out a Primary 1–5 sequence. P1 and P2 use KUBO robots and puzzle-like coding tags; P3 makes Scratch games around food sustainability. P4 uses micro:bit and MakeCode for water-conservation solutions, while P5 designs energy-conservation and monitoring prototypes. The concrete progression is more informative than a general claim about technology: children first practise sequencing and debugging, then consider users, test a design and refine it. The page describes intended learning, rather than measured improvements in attainment.
Rulang Primary School
Rulang began in 1930 as the Chinese-medium Joo Long Public School in a Jurong Road shophouse. It became government-aided in 1957, then a government school under the Rulang name in 1984. The move to 6 Jurong West Street 52 came in 1985; the official opening followed in 1986. MOE’s history records completed PERI upgrading in 2018 and a switch to a single session with an on-site Student Care Centre in 2019. Those milestones explain the campus’s development; they do not establish current care availability or fees.
The Integrated Robotics Curriculum is described as an opportunity for every pupil to learn about robots. Its S.P.A.C.E approach asks children to consider a scenario, identify a problem, ask questions, cooperate and evaluate their work. A separate Accelerated Education Programme introduces more advanced programming and construction for pupils identified for further development. Its project assessment includes technical skills, oral presentation, research, teamwork and self-reflection. This distinction matters: the advanced work is not a promise of the same robotics experience for every child. The page does not specify current lesson hours or selection criteria.
