National Junior College
National Junior College opened in January 1969 with 570 students and was officially opened in May 1970. MOE records its move to Hillcrest Road in 1995, a four-year Integrated Programme from 2004, and expansion to six years with Sec 1 admission in 2009. This profile concerns Junior High, the four secondary-stage years within that six-year route. Its learning experiences and activity choices should be distinguished from the two Senior High years, even though both stages share the college name and some programmes.
The current Junior High page describes interdisciplinary SPIRE work and Perspectives Tasks alongside languages, mathematics, integrated sciences, humanities, PE, art and music. JH1–2 pupils can take one or more electives, subject to selection and timetable fit. JH3–4 pupils normally take at most two; those taking triple science can take at most one. Examples include coding, forensic science and advanced science or mathematics. This offers room to explore, but not an unrestricted menu. Families can ask how choices, project deadlines and subject progression fit together across the four years.
Victoria Junior College
Victoria Junior College welcomed its first cohort in January 1984 and officially opened in July 1985. It became a Humanities Programme centre in 1987 and first offered Theatre Studies and Drama in 1989. Its original Integrated Programme began in 2005. The later Victoria-Cedar Alliance was formed in 2011: pupils now spend four secondary years at Victoria School or Cedar Girls’ Secondary School and their final two years at VJC. These are separate historical developments, rather than a six-year course taught entirely on the college campus.
The academic page lists 67 standard combinations across Arts and Science, with at least one contrasting subject outside the main specialisation. Examples include Further Mathematics or Computing alongside Mathematics and science subjects, and Theatre Studies and Drama among the arts options. For the February 2026 intake, orientation information specified selection tests for Further Mathematics, Computing, Theatre Studies and Art. That is dated intake information, not a promise about 2027 requirements. The JAE FAQ says IP and JAE students join mixed classes and start subject selection and academic lessons after JAE students report.
