How to choose between them

Both are solid North zone schools with comparable COP ranges — the real differentiator is what your child wants to pursue. Admiralty gives you more DSA pathways and performing arts depth; Woodlands brings four decades of community and a slightly more competitive entry at the top.

Consider Admiralty Secondary School if…

  • 10 DSA areas — rare breadth for a neighbourhood school
  • 2 SYF Distinctions signals genuine performing arts commitment

Consider Woodlands Secondary School if…

  • Founded 1982 — deeper alumni network and school culture
  • COP floor of 15 means stronger cohort at the top end

If your child has a clear talent to develop, chase the DSA breadth at Admiralty; if you value a school with roots, Woodlands has earned its reputation.

Get to know each school

Admiralty Secondary School

Admiralty Secondary started in 2002 using Evergreen Secondary’s premises, with the official opening at its current Woodlands Crescent site in 2004. Its history records recognition of Robotics Enterprise as a niche in 2006. The school later developed Design Thinking through Innovation and Technology as its Applied Learning Programme, alongside a community-outreach Learning for Life Programme. That history explains why technology and service recur in its present programme descriptions.

The school’s ALP page sets out a foundation for all students, with fortnightly Secondary 1 lessons using tools such as Qdee robots and Microsoft MakeCode. In Secondary 2, the published curriculum asks groups to develop solutions around inclusivity, extending earlier design thinking and coding through micro:bit and Huskylens. Separate enrichment opportunities include the Innovation Programme, maker workshops and competitions for interested and able students. The distinction is useful: timetabled lessons for everyone and deeper specialist participation involve different commitments.

Woodlands Secondary School

Woodlands Secondary opened in 1982 with 205 pupils and 13 staff, initially using Si Ling Secondary’s premises. It moved to its own Admiralty Road campus in 1984, with the official opening on 20 September. A later change in the entrance gave the same site its present address, 11 Marsiling Road. The history also records the move to a single session in 1999 and later facilities development. This distinguishes an established campus from a recent relocation, and gives context to its present food-science and community-leadership programmes.

The Food Science and Technology ALP gives all Secondary 1 and 2 pupils its first two tiers. Molecular gastronomy introduces spherification, foams and gels; an annual drinks-making competition asks pupils to create a healthier, visually appealing drink. Computational-thinking work includes basic and advanced microcontroller programming and coding for drone flight. A third tier offers deeper enrichment and competitions for pupils with strong interest, with polytechnic and STEM partners among the examples. These are opportunities beyond common exposure, so ask how pupils are selected and whether workshop or industry-visit arrangements change each year.
