How to choose between them
Both schools sit in the East and share the same SYF track record, but the gap in entry selectivity is real — Temasek is drawing students with AL scores in the 8-11 range while Bedok South casts a wider net at 13-18. Your child's score and ambitions should drive this call.
Consider Bedok South Secondary School if…
- Good fit if your child's AL score sits in the 13-18 range
- Smaller CCA slate means less competition for leadership roles
Consider Temasek Secondary School if…
- 14 DSA areas gives talent-based entry a genuine shot
- 29 CCAs and tighter COP signal a more competitive, driven cohort
Match the school to where your child is today, not where you hope the school's name takes them.

Bedok South Secondary School
Bedok South Secondary was established in 1980 and initially shared premises with Temasek Secondary and Kong San Primary. It moved to 1 Jalan Langgar Bedok in December 2002, and the campus officially opened in February 2004. MOE’s history records the later Project S.H.I.N.E innovation programme and SHAPE sports-and-outdoor emphasis. The history page gives inconsistent introduction and implementation years for SHAPE, so those dates are not used here to make a precise chronology.
The school’s current DSA programme description lists Secondary 1–2 design-thinking workshops and learning journeys involving makers and social entrepreneurs. It separately identifies makerspace activities for selected lower-secondary students, innovation competitions for selected Secondary 3 students, and an overseas ALP/LLP trip for selected Secondary 2–3 students. These distinctions matter: seeing a named competition or overseas trip on the website does not establish participation for every pupil. The DSA page is useful for programme scope but contains a conflicting intake-year sentence in its timeline.
Temasek Secondary School
Temasek Secondary began in 1980, briefly sharing Bedok South Secondary’s premises before moving to its own Upper Changi Road campus that May. It officially opened in April 1982. Autonomous status and its Higher Malay Language centre followed in 1995; the move to 600 Upper East Coast Road came in 1999. MOE records student leadership as a hallmark from 2001, Cross-Cultural Awareness from 2014 and the Temasek Ignis Programme from 2016. These are the school’s own strands, distinct from Temasek JC’s Integrated Programme.
In S1 Project Culture, pupils work in groups to investigate a nationality living in Singapore, compare cultural practices and give an oral presentation. S2 Camp Culture is non-residential, combining visits and facilitated reflection; the page describes its broader Singapore-history and multicultural focus from 2018. Overseas school exchanges resumed after 2023, with examples in Thailand, Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. The local curriculum and overseas opportunities should be distinguished: families should ask which trips run for the coming cohort, how places are allocated and what participation costs.
