Get to know each school
Bukit View Secondary School
Bukit View Secondary began in 1986 with about 450 pupils and 15 teachers. MOE’s history records a 1999 Mandai Forest restoration project and later green learning spaces, including a solar-powered garden sprinkler. Clean Energy and Environmental Technology became its ALP focus, with the JOULES STEM emphasis sharpening from 2016. This helps explain why sustainability appears across the current programme, rather than only in one recycling event.
JOULES focuses on clean energy and environmental technology through design thinking and programming. The school lists Secondary 1 and 2 projects, a Secondary 2 Smart Cities showcase and a one-day Secondary 3 experience at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Examples include solar cars and assistive smart glasses. Further opportunities such as environmental leadership conferences and NXplorers are described for student leaders pursuing that interest. The scholarship table still uses older PSLE grades, so current eligibility needs direct confirmation before a family relies on it.
West Spring Secondary School
West Spring Secondary began operating in 2001 at Zhenghua Secondary, then occupied the former Teck Whye Secondary campus in 2002. Students and staff moved to the Senja Road premises in December 2004, after the pioneer cohort had completed its time at the school. The official opening followed in September 2005. Its history also records selection for the Full Subject-Based Banding pilot in 2019 and mixed form classes in 2021. Early examination percentages and award tables are historical, not a prediction of outcomes for a new intake.
The current ALP is Advocating for Sustainability (ActS), rather than simply the media-literacy programme named in its older history. The page describes 2025 Sec 1 projects on environmental waste, with design-thinking work, reflections, infographics and advocacy to patrons at Senja Hawker Centre. Sec 2 projects addressed the needs of seniors and children through social-service partnerships. These examples explain how communication and community work fit together. They are dated cohort activities; families should confirm the next intake’s projects and how contributions are assessed within a group.
