How to choose between them

Cedar Girls' and Victoria School share the same COP range and IP track, so the academic bar is similar. The real difference comes down to gender environment and what your child wants to pursue beyond the classroom — Cedar's tight-knit girls' culture versus Victoria's breadth of 16 DSA areas and one of Singapore's oldest school traditions.

Consider Cedar Girls' Secondary School if…

  • Single-gender environment supports focused academic and personal growth
  • IP track with strong arts culture and 8 SYF Distinctions

Consider Victoria School if…

  • 16 DSA areas gives more pathways for specialist talent development
  • 150-year heritage with 33 CCAs and exceptional co-curricular depth

Both schools punch well above their COP range — trust your child's gut on which community feels like home.

Get to know each school

Cedar Girls' Secondary School

Cedar Girls’ Secondary was established in 1957 at its Sennett Estate premises with 18 teachers. Its history describes a track-and-field tradition dating to the 1960s, single-session schooling from 1992 and autonomous status in 1996. The Victoria-Cedar Alliance began in 2012. The history page also announces rebuilding of the track in 2026; it does not confirm completion. These are secondary-school milestones, distinct from the similarly named Cedar Primary and its mergers.

For the 2027 intake, the DSA page distinguishes a four-year SEC Programme from the six-year Victoria-Cedar Alliance IP, with four years at Cedar and two at Victoria Junior College. The IP page describes collaboration in CCAs, leadership and talent development. The FAQ says some pupils may be invited to consider changing track after lower secondary, based on performance and learning disposition. It also says Cedar has no affiliated junior college; IP progression to VJC should not be confused with an affiliation bonus for SEC applicants.

Victoria School

Victoria School began in 1876 as an English class for twelve boys in Kampong Glam Malay School. It became Victoria Bridge School after moving near the bridge in 1900, and adopted Victoria School at Tyrwhitt Road in 1933. It received autonomous status in 1993 and moved to Siglap Link in 2003. Its house system dates from 1929; the Victoria Challenge began in 1987. These long-running traditions explain part of the school’s identity, without proving that every present pupil has the same experience.

The website presents a national-examination route, still labelled the O-Level Programme, alongside the Victoria-Cedar Alliance IP. Its published subject list spans sciences, humanities, languages and options such as Art, Music and Physical Education; families should verify the next intake’s qualification labels, availability and prerequisites. IP pupils spend four years at their secondary school before two years at VJC. The IP framework includes research, electives and the Helmsman leadership programme, progressing from personal and team leadership to organisational leadership. It expects students to take ownership of learning; it is not simply an exam-free version of the other route.
