Evergreen Secondary School
Evergreen Secondary opened in 2000 with 320 students and 12 teaching staff, moving to 11 Woodlands Street 83 in June that year. MOE's history records its North Zone Centre of Excellence in National Education designation in 2003, followed by NE awards in 2004 and 2008. Later developments included communication-based applied learning in 2015 and sports-based learning for life in 2016. These are dated milestones rather than a present-day ranking. They help explain why public communication, citizenship and sport recur in the current programme descriptions.
The current ALP is titled Bilingual Voices, Active Citizens. It links communication in English and Mother Tongue Languages with discussion of real-world and civic issues. Its lower-secondary Music component uses writing and performing raps to help pupils express their perspectives. This gives a concrete classroom activity behind the programme name. The page's introductory claim about musical talent is broader than the detail in its body: it does not establish specialist music tuition, an audition pathway or proven gains in bilingual proficiency for every pupil.
Jurong Secondary School
Jurong opened on 28 August 1963 as Jurong Integrated Secondary School, following requests from residents of the developing industrial area. It took its present name in 1971, moved to Yuan Ching Road on 2 November 1974, and officially opened that campus on 2 July 1976. The history also records a pre-university centre established in 1981 for about a decade. That was an earlier stage of the school, rather than a course offered to today’s secondary entrants.
The ALP, Design for Smart and Sustainable Urban Living, has a common curriculum for all Secondary 1 and 2 students. Secondary 1 combines micro:bit tinkering with inquiry into sustainable urban living. Secondary 2 uses design thinking to identify community problems and develop technology-based prototypes. The school describes showcasing pupils’ best work at its Green Carnival and Maker Faire. Further workshops, competitions and industry visits are for interested students. Tokyo in 2024 and Shanghai in 2025 are examples of past immersion trips, rather than trips promised to every cohort.
