Get to know each school
Jurong West Secondary School
Jurong West Secondary began on 2 January 2001 at Jalan Boon Lay and moved to its present 3.1-hectare campus on 18 March 2002. Its history records an indoor sports hall added in 2009 and later spaces such as the Book Room, Learning Hive and Loft. The school was an early subject-based-banding prototype school in 2014, before joining the Full SBB pilot from 2020. Those dates explain its experience with mixed subject levels, without serving as evidence of comparative academic results.
The ALP, Harnessing Technology in Authentic Contexts, uses project work across Art, English and ICT in Secondary 1 and 2. Pupils choose between augmented-reality application development, mobile applications and micro:bit physical computing, with training matched to that choice. They develop digital artefacts to communicate ideas or propose solutions to social issues. The page also describes exhibitions and outside showcases, but marks its opportunity examples as 2016–2022. Those older events should be read as past examples, rather than this year’s confirmed itinerary.
Northbrooks Secondary School
Northbrooks Secondary opened on 2 January 2000. MOE explains its name through the proverb 饮水思源: remembering the people who have helped you. Aerospace applied learning and outdoor education were recognised as its ALP and LLP in 2015; a water-sustainability programme followed in 2017. Its heritage account also records stained-glass work, although the image caption and narrative give different starting years. That date is therefore left unresolved here. The current curriculum pages provide a more useful account of what pupils do today.
The aerospace ALP connects STEM learning with aviation careers, with partners including CAAS, Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and ST Aerospace. Its first tier includes lower-secondary STEM lessons and broader learning journeys, enrichment and career education. Advanced and elective modules, Youth Flying Club activities and other projects sit in the second tier. The CCA page shows NCC Air members building a glider and Flying Club members using a simulator. Those examples describe particular members’ activities; they do not establish flying training for every pupil or preferential admission to a post-secondary course.
