Get to know each school
Jurong West Secondary School
Jurong West Secondary began on 2 January 2001 at Jalan Boon Lay and moved to its present 3.1-hectare campus on 18 March 2002. Its history records an indoor sports hall added in 2009 and later spaces such as the Book Room, Learning Hive and Loft. The school was an early subject-based-banding prototype school in 2014, before joining the Full SBB pilot from 2020. Those dates explain its experience with mixed subject levels, without serving as evidence of comparative academic results.
The ALP, Harnessing Technology in Authentic Contexts, uses project work across Art, English and ICT in Secondary 1 and 2. Pupils choose between augmented-reality application development, mobile applications and micro:bit physical computing, with training matched to that choice. They develop digital artefacts to communicate ideas or propose solutions to social issues. The page also describes exhibitions and outside showcases, but marks its opportunity examples as 2016–2022. Those older events should be read as past examples, rather than this year’s confirmed itinerary.
Orchid Park Secondary School
Orchid Park Secondary began in January 1999 at Woodlands Ring Secondary before moving to Yishun Street 81 that September. Its official opening on 21 April 2001 used a concert, Around the World in 80 Minutes. MOE’s heritage account describes later Arts Panache productions and student enterprises such as the 2002 Art Rock Café. Those businesses are historical examples, not confirmed current facilities. The ARTOPIA visual-arts niche began in 2011, extended to an ALP in 2014, and the Enhanced Art Programme launched in 2016.
The current ARTopIA page describes art, music, dance and drama through workshops, performances, exhibitions and competitions. Specific examples include open-mic sessions, a Sec 2 Battle of the Bands and a Sec 3 theatre experience. EAP is separately described as an upper-secondary art programme for pupils with interest and potential who want to pursue the subject further. The broad ALP therefore does not mean every pupil takes specialist art. Families can discuss subject-selection requirements, assessable work and how much preparation happens outside lessons.
