Kranji Secondary School
Kranji Secondary began in 1995 at Chestnut Drive Secondary before moving to 61 Choa Chu Kang Street 51 in 1996. It returned to its upgraded premises in December 2018 after PRIME works. Its ALP started in 2016 with a thinking curriculum and was repositioned in 2021 around design thinking for sustainable living. The history also records a community Mid-Autumn partnership dating from 2005. These milestones connect its current environmental projects and community leadership with longer-running strands of school life.
Lower-secondary pupils complete the year-long THINK programme, learning design thinking, research and information literacy before developing solutions to a sustainability issue. Published visits include farming and green-solution organisations, and pupils present work at a THINK carnival. Green Ambassadors are an interested group with additional responsibilities: facilitating an eco-trail, conserving Kranji Marshes, supporting a pollinator-friendly garden and teaching younger pupils about biodiversity. Those roles are more selective than the lower-secondary foundation. Some described campaigns have no clear event year, so the listed partners and visits are examples rather than an assured future itinerary.
Tanjong Katong Girls' School
MOE records TKGS’s establishment in 1953 as Singapore’s first post-war government English-medium girls’ school. It began the Music Elective Programme in 1983, gained autonomous status and moved to Dunman Lane in 1995, and returned there in 2019 following PRIME upgrading at a temporary Bedok South site. Its arts identity therefore predates the current signature programmes. This history helps explain the place of music and community service in the school’s published curriculum; it should not be read as evidence of a particular child’s fit or future results.
The Music Elective Programme is for pupils with passion and aptitude, rather than a general music CCA. TKGS describes four years of in-depth study, encompassing listening, research, performance or composition, with workshops and collaborations. The school’s selection exercise includes an audition, an e-listening test and an interview. The audition calls for two unaccompanied solo pieces on an instrument or voice, totalling no more than five minutes. Interested pupils register through the Sec 1 package after a TKGS placement is confirmed. The page still uses O-Level Higher Music terminology; ask which qualification and assessment framework applies to the incoming cohort.
