Tampines Secondary School
Tampines Secondary opened to its first 458 pupils on 2 January 1986, with 12 teachers and founding principal Koh Sei Hian. Its official opening followed on 8 August 1988. The school later underwent PRIME upgrading in 2008 and developed creative engineering and visual and performing arts as distinctive areas. Its founding motto, Betterment of Self for Society, remains part of the school’s stated identity. The history gives context for the current programmes; it does not establish how every pupil experiences the school or its present exam performance.
Creative Engineering: Tinker, Design, Innovate offers all Sec 1 pupils upcycling and drone activities, then group challenges related to water or technology. Sec 2 includes building a solar toy car, Microbit coding and challenges about energy or ageing. These Tier 1 sessions use a Maker Hub with fabrication and electronics equipment. Tier 2 gives interested pupils opportunities for student-led projects; the more advanced Maker Faire CCA track involves identified, especially enthusiastic pupils. The page still contains a pandemic-era statement about overseas trips being on hold, so it cannot confirm the present travel programme or availability.
Zhenghua Secondary School
Zhenghua Secondary was established on 15 December 1999, initially in makeshift containers at Greenridge Secondary. It moved to 91 Senja Road in December 2000 and officially opened in November 2002. Its history traces the development of outdoor education and uniformed groups across successive leadership periods. It also records participation in the Full Subject-Based Banding pilot under the 2015–2021 principal, with mixed form classes and learning levels aligned to pupils’ strengths. These are historical milestones, not evidence that every present class or support arrangement works identically. The outdoor emphasis is better assessed through the current programme sequence than through the school’s reputation alone.
The current Applied Learning Programme, Future of Transportation, starts with mobility and accessibility problems. Pupils use AI tools to refine problem statements, then make cardboard prototypes with Microbits to demonstrate features such as automation, safety or access for users with disabilities. The page describes a Secondary 2 mid-year learning journey involving Changi Experience Studio, maritime learning and a southern-islands boat ride. Those are reported programme examples, not a guaranteed itinerary for the next cohort. Ask how pupils test whether their design meets a user’s needs and how teacher feedback shapes the next version.
