Get to know each school
Admiralty Secondary School
Admiralty Secondary started in 2002 using Evergreen Secondary’s premises, with the official opening at its current Woodlands Crescent site in 2004. Its history records recognition of Robotics Enterprise as a niche in 2006. The school later developed Design Thinking through Innovation and Technology as its Applied Learning Programme, alongside a community-outreach Learning for Life Programme. That history explains why technology and service recur in its present programme descriptions.
The school’s ALP page sets out a foundation for all students, with fortnightly Secondary 1 lessons using tools such as Qdee robots and Microsoft MakeCode. In Secondary 2, the published curriculum asks groups to develop solutions around inclusivity, extending earlier design thinking and coding through micro:bit and Huskylens. Separate enrichment opportunities include the Innovation Programme, maker workshops and competitions for interested and able students. The distinction is useful: timetabled lessons for everyone and deeper specialist participation involve different commitments.
Bukit Batok Secondary School
Bukit Batok Secondary began in 1986 with 400 students to serve the developing new town. MOE’s Heritage Centre records the introduction of Habits of Mind in 2003 and the rebuilding completed in 2008, after two years at a holding school in Toh Tuck Terrace. A community heritage corridor was launched in 2019 to connect school and neighbourhood stories. The school is at 50 Bukit Batok West Avenue 8. This history provides a local context for its current projects without treating old programme names as today’s curriculum.
The current ALP describes Secondary 1 Code for Fun and AI applications, followed by a Secondary 2 redesign of the BBSS Legacy Trail. Upper-secondary work can involve polytechnics, A*STAR or Infineon Technologies. The page explicitly separates school-wide learning from selected interest groups and partnerships, then a stretch tier for talents. Design thinking focuses on understanding users and revising prototypes, alongside computational and reflective thinking. Those details explain the learning approach; specialist projects and international partnerships should not be assumed available to every pupil.
