Get to know each school

Bukit Batok Secondary School

Bukit Batok Secondary began in 1986 with 400 students to serve the developing new town. MOE’s Heritage Centre records the introduction of Habits of Mind in 2003 and the rebuilding completed in 2008, after two years at a holding school in Toh Tuck Terrace. A community heritage corridor was launched in 2019 to connect school and neighbourhood stories. The school is at 50 Bukit Batok West Avenue 8. This history provides a local context for its current projects without treating old programme names as today’s curriculum.

The current ALP describes Secondary 1 Code for Fun and AI applications, followed by a Secondary 2 redesign of the BBSS Legacy Trail. Upper-secondary work can involve polytechnics, A*STAR or Infineon Technologies. The page explicitly separates school-wide learning from selected interest groups and partnerships, then a stretch tier for talents. Design thinking focuses on understanding users and revising prototypes, alongside computational and reflective thinking. Those details explain the learning approach; specialist projects and international partnerships should not be assumed available to every pupil.

Catholic High School

Catholic High began in 1935 within the Church of St Peter and Paul at Queen Street, founded by Father Edward Becheras. It moved to Bishan in 1992. The school describes bilingualism as a founding principle and welcomes Catholic and non-Catholic pupils. This review concerns the secondary section: primary-school CCA, curriculum and camp reports cannot establish what a secondary pupil will experience, even though both sections share the school name and website.

The current secondary overview presents the Joint Integrated Programme and SEC Programme. IP pupils spend four years at Catholic High before progressing to Eunoia Junior College; SP pupils apply to post-secondary institutions using examination results and may choose junior college or polytechnic. The track is chosen during DSA or Secondary 1 posting. The page distinguishes CJC affiliation from EJC: SP pupils do not receive affiliation bonus points for EJC. Families should check the applicable admissions rules rather than assume an IP partnership guarantees an SP place.
