How to choose between them

Both are solid East zone co-ed schools with wide COP ranges, meaning they welcome students across the AL spectrum. Dunman brings 60+ years of heritage and proven programmes; Edgefield is a younger, modern Punggol campus that's already competitive at the top end.

Consider Dunman Secondary School if…

  • 60+ years of heritage and established school culture
  • Slightly more DSA areas and SYF Distinctions for talent pathways

Consider Edgefield Secondary School if…

  • Tighter top-end COP of 5 signals a rising, competitive school
  • Modern Punggol campus with 26 CCAs in a growing new town

Proximity and your child's COP will likely be the deciding factor — both schools will serve them well.

Get to know each school

Dunman Secondary School

Dunman Secondary began at Haig Road in 1963 as Dunman Integrated Secondary School, initially with three language streams. It moved to Tampines Street 45 in 1990 and gained autonomous status in 2000. MOE records its Life Sciences Training and Research Centre and East Zone science-innovation role from 2001. The original language streams and former pre-university classes are history. Families should distinguish this Tampines secondary school from Dunman High’s SAP and six-year IP arrangements; the similar English names do not imply the same curriculum.

STEMviaDT describes applying design thinking to real-world challenges, with previous projects including a karaoke app and an essential-services app for seniors. The talent-development page separately records ELIXiR+ examples such as upcycling jeans into bags, hydroponics, a load-bearing-chair challenge and competition training. Its primary-school outreach and old 2022 DSA criteria should not be mistaken for an enrolled secondary pupil’s entitlement. The examples illustrate possible work; the pages do not establish that every pupil does every specialist activity or follows one fixed project timetable.

Edgefield Secondary School

Edgefield Secondary was established in 2011 and officially opened in July 2013. MOE records ALP and taekwondo LLP recognition in 2014, followed by mixed-stream form classes and a personalised-device pilot in 2019. Its history places those initiatives in the development towards Full Subject-Based Banding. That is useful context for its emphasis on technology and student choice, but a pilot designation is not proof of an individual child's friendships, learning progress or current classroom experience.

Growing the Edgefield Mindset uses future scenarios such as programming drones for a simulated earthquake search, designing for food or water scarcity, and modelling a floating city. These are learning scenarios, not actual disaster deployments. The school also documents ARTasFEST on 23 May 2025: Secondary 1 worked on merchandise with vendors, Secondary 2 coordinated food and beverages, and Secondary 3 designed carnival games. That dated event shows how entrepreneurial tasks were distributed across levels; it does not guarantee identical projects for every later cohort.
