Jurong West Secondary School
Jurong West Secondary began on 2 January 2001 at Jalan Boon Lay and moved to its present 3.1-hectare campus on 18 March 2002. Its history records an indoor sports hall added in 2009 and later spaces such as the Book Room, Learning Hive and Loft. The school was an early subject-based-banding prototype school in 2014, before joining the Full SBB pilot from 2020. Those dates explain its experience with mixed subject levels, without serving as evidence of comparative academic results.
The ALP, Harnessing Technology in Authentic Contexts, uses project work across Art, English and ICT in Secondary 1 and 2. Pupils choose between augmented-reality application development, mobile applications and micro:bit physical computing, with training matched to that choice. They develop digital artefacts to communicate ideas or propose solutions to social issues. The page also describes exhibitions and outside showcases, but marks its opportunity examples as 2016–2022. Those older events should be read as past examples, rather than this year’s confirmed itinerary.
Meridian Secondary School
Meridian Secondary came into being in April 2016 through the union of Siglap Secondary and Coral Secondary. Coral itself had started on Siglap’s premises in 1999, so the merger reunited communities with an earlier connection. The school history describes inherited strengths in art, music, football and floorball. Those origins explain parts of its programme mix; older enrolment figures and sporting descriptions do not establish current cohort size, team ranking or an individual pupil’s prospects.
The current ALP is titled Aesthetics, broader than the Visual Communication description in the school history. Its common tier introduces Sec 1 pupils to digital photography, Southeast Asian music and Western classical music. Sec 2 pupils choose media, visual art, music or dance for deeper exploration. Extended opportunities include MAEP, EAP, Media Club and performing-arts CCAs for pupils with strong interest. Partnerships and public showcases are described as opportunities; they should not be assumed to be identical for every pupil or intake.
