Juying Secondary School
Juying began in 1995 at Pioneer Secondary while the former Jurong Institute premises were adapted. It moved to 33 Jurong West Street 91 on 12 June 1995 and officially opened on 18 July 1997. A 1999 extension enabled a single session; PRIME work from 2009–2012 added facilities including an indoor sports hall and dance studio. The heritage page records an earlier arts LLP, but the present LLP page describes PASSION! @ Juying, so the older programme title should not be carried forward as its current framework.
The oracy ALP gives cohort workshops and curriculum speaking opportunities from Secondary 1 to 4–5. The page describes lower-secondary show-and-tell work, Secondary 3 research and presentation training, and graduating-level interview, application-writing and e-portfolio preparation for EAE or DSA. Interested Secondary 1–2 pupils may enter a talent-development route. Speech and Drama members, student leaders and the talent pool have more extensive opportunities, such as emceeing, reporting or ambassadorship. Those selected roles and competitions are distinct from the common cohort training.
Northland Secondary School
Northland Secondary was established in 1994 at Yishun Street 22. It merged with North View Secondary in 2017, retaining the Northland English name and adopting North View’s Chinese name, 德贤中学. MOE records hockey as a niche from 2005, the Game for Life LLP from 2014 and an eldercare ALP from 2016. The current Eldertech page shows how that last programme has developed towards technology for adaptive ageing. Alumni memories should therefore be read with their attendance years and the merger in mind.
Eldertech uses simulators to recreate difficulties such as deteriorating eyesight and hand tremors before pupils develop technological solutions and assistive devices. The school connects that design work with understanding older people’s needs. This is a more concrete learning description than a claim that pupils simply develop empathy: it identifies the experience and the design task. The published text does not provide a year-by-year timetable or evidence that a pupil prototype became a deployed healthcare product. Families can ask for examples of recent projects and how feedback from older users is incorporated.
