How to choose between them

Both are solid South zone co-ed schools with identical SYF Distinction track records. Bendemeer draws a more competitive intake starting at COP 11, while Queenstown's history as Singapore's first technical school gives it a distinct character and a slightly more accessible entry point.

Consider Bendemeer Secondary School if…

  • Stronger academic intake with COP starting at 11
  • One extra DSA area gives more admission pathway options

Consider Queenstown Secondary School if…

  • Founded 1956 as Singapore's pioneering technical school
  • COP minimum of 15 means less stretch for mid-range scorers

If your child is a strong scorer eyeing arts or DSA, Bendemeer edges ahead — but Queenstown's heritage and wider entry range make it a worthy pick for families wanting a school with real roots.

Bendemeer Secondary School

Bendemeer Secondary opened in 1977 along Serangoon Road and also served as a pre-university centre from 1980 to 1995. It merged with Whampoa Secondary in 1994, then moved to the former Whampoa site at 1 St Wilfred Road in 1998. These are distinct events in MOE’s history record. Older alumni memories may include the pre-university years or the former campus, rather than the present secondary-school setting.

The current ALP introduces all students to sustainability over Secondary 1 and 2. The first year covers food, water and land through design-thinking projects and waste-reduction campaigns. The second turns to energy: students examine carbon footprints and life-cycle assessments, and use micro:bit technology for systems such as energy monitoring or smart lighting. The ALP Eco Stewards talent-development programme goes further into inquiry and national-level initiatives. That extension is separate from the two-year programme for the whole cohort.

Queenstown Secondary School

Queenstown Secondary began in 1956 as an all-boys technical school, initially using Jalan Eunos School before moving to Strathmore Avenue in January 1957. It admitted girls in 1971 and adopted its present name in 1993. After using a temporary Commonwealth Avenue site during rebuilding, it returned to Strathmore in 1997. The new building and QUEST Museum opened officially in 1999. This history explains the technical references in its crest and school song; it does not mean today’s pupils follow the former technical-school curriculum.

The June 2026 FutureLearn page explains that the school integrates its Applied Learning and Learning for Life programmes around environmental sustainability, community youth leadership and digital literacy, supported by maker education. S1 examples include Lower Seletar Reservoir field learning; S2 explores alternative energy and prototypes. S3 pupils work in teams on a community capstone project and can choose topics based on their interests. Published examples include promoting hawker culture. Overseas immersion is described for selected pupils, so it should not be treated as an entitlement for every child.
