Commonwealth Secondary School
Commonwealth Secondary began in 1964 as Tanglin Integrated Vocational Secondary School. It became Tanglin Secondary in 1969 and Commonwealth Secondary in 1972, commemorating the previous year's Commonwealth heads-of-government meeting in Singapore. It moved through two Jurong East campuses before reaching West Coast Road in 2006. Autonomous status dates to 1995, followed by recognised environmental-education and design-and-innovation centres in 2008 and 2016. This history helps explain its current mix of practical making, environmental learning and performing arts.
The eco-stewardship curriculum describes Geography water-quality investigations in the stream and wetland, Science farm-to-table work, and hydroponic design in Craft and Technology. Campus spaces include a rainforest, marine aquarium, plant nursery and indoor and outdoor farms. These are concrete learning settings; the pages do not give a fixed fieldwork allocation for every cohort. CCA projects also link sustainability with community partners and causes such as responsible consumption or animal welfare. Parents can ask how often students use these spaces within ordinary lessons.
Westwood Secondary School
Westwood Secondary accepted its first 200 pupils in January 2000 in a block at Hua Yi Secondary. MOE’s history records a move to 11 Jurong West Street 25 in December 2000, campus handover in February 2001 and official opening on 12 November 2002. The Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship ALP followed in 2013, Arts for Life! LLP in 2015, and an indoor sports hall and gallery in 2016. These dates explain how its identity developed; they do not measure current class sizes or teaching quality.
The ISE page describes a design-thinking process of understanding users, identifying problems, and developing and testing solutions. Its foundation examples are a Sec 1 Sustainability Challenge and Sec 2 Entrepreneurship Challenge. Advanced development lists industry mentorship, competitions, sustainability projects and e-portfolios. Because this page also serves as a DSA talent description, families should ask which experiences are baseline for all pupils and which require selection. A project or pitch can show how a child thinks, but a list of desired outcomes does not prove every student becomes an entrepreneur.
