Get to know each school

Dunman High School

Dunman High was established in 1956 as Kallang West Government Chinese Middle School, renamed after moving to Dunman Road in 1957, and became a SAP school in 1979. It moved to Tanjong Rhu in 1995 and began its Integrated Programme in 2005. The current structure has four Junior High years and two Senior High years leading to A levels. This review concerns the secondary stage; Senior High subject offers, scholarships and JC-entry experiences need to be read separately.

The Junior High English page describes oral presentations, multimodal-text analysis, group discussion and Socratic seminars. Literature in English is taken by all lower-secondary pupils; in Years 3 and 4, pupils with an interest may choose it as a Humanities subject. Literature work includes close reading, role play, scriptwriting, research and multimedia presentations. These are specific classroom approaches, rather than evidence that one language dominates all school interactions. Current subject combinations and any requirements for choosing upper-secondary Literature should be confirmed for the relevant cohort.

Hua Yi Secondary School

Hua Yi started in 1956 as a government Chinese middle school on Fowlie Road. It moved through Winstedt Road and Margaret Drive before later operating at Depot Road, and reached its present Jurong West Street 42 premises in December 1999. MOE records English classes beginning in 1979 and the end of pre-university enrolment. Its heritage also includes xinyao compositions and bonsai cultivation. These explain the school’s cultural roots; they do not make today’s secondary programme a Chinese-only course or a pre-university route.

The August 2026 ALP page says Secondary 1 now uses micro:bit kits, transitioning from M5GO, for block-based coding and design projects. Secondary 2 progresses to AI for Fun using AI EF and ET Kit 2 hardware, while Secondary 3 has applied modules through polytechnics and ITE. The same page retains a pupil reflection about M5GO, so that account should not overwrite the newer equipment description. An overseas Taiwan exchange is described for a group of students, rather than as travel automatically available to everyone.
