Get to know each school

Geylang Methodist School (Secondary)

Geylang Methodist's origins lie in a class of 27 girls within Geylang Chinese Methodist Church in 1924. Secondary classes began in 1950. In 1984 the institution split into separate primary and secondary schools and became co-educational; the secondary school became single-session in 1999. The schools marked their centenary in 2024 with The Living Gallery heritage museum. The shared heritage should not blur their different programmes: the secondary school's sustainability ALP is distinct from the primary school's English communication programme.

The Tier 1 ALP is integrated into science for all lower-secondary pupils, with one hour a week over ten weeks. Secondary 1 investigates the urban heat-island effect, while Secondary 2 explores urban agriculture through experiments, fieldwork and a mini-project. Tier 2 is for interested Secondary 3 pupils seeking further STEM work. This is a useful distinction between scheduled general exposure and additional opportunities. Parents can ask what the project demands, how work is assessed and how pupils with different science subject levels are supported.

Queenstown Secondary School

Queenstown Secondary began in 1956 as an all-boys technical school, initially using Jalan Eunos School before moving to Strathmore Avenue in January 1957. It admitted girls in 1971 and adopted its present name in 1993. After using a temporary Commonwealth Avenue site during rebuilding, it returned to Strathmore in 1997. The new building and QUEST Museum opened officially in 1999. This history explains the technical references in its crest and school song; it does not mean today’s pupils follow the former technical-school curriculum.

The June 2026 FutureLearn page explains that the school integrates its Applied Learning and Learning for Life programmes around environmental sustainability, community youth leadership and digital literacy, supported by maker education. S1 examples include Lower Seletar Reservoir field learning; S2 explores alternative energy and prototypes. S3 pupils work in teams on a community capstone project and can choose topics based on their interests. Published examples include promoting hawker culture. Overseas immersion is described for selected pupils, so it should not be treated as an entitlement for every child.
