Get to know each school
Holy Innocents' High School
Holy Innocents’ High traces its origins to a Chinese mission school founded in 1892 under the name Tao Nan. Its history records the change to Holy Innocents’ Chinese Boys School in 1920 and the introduction of secondary classes and the High School name in 1958. The primary section moved to its separate premises in 1985. This is why the primary school and the present secondary school should not share reviews indiscriminately. Later milestones include journalism and broadcasting in 2012, the establishment of ALP and LLP in 2014, and the indoor sports hall in 2017.
The school makes Applied Learning Modules available from Secondary 2 onwards, with up to three enrolments across a student’s secondary years. The page connects Secondary 2 module choices with the subject-selection exercise. Examples range from electronics and architecture at ITE to chemistry, analytics and consumer research at polytechnics, alongside school-based vendor modules. These are examples of provision, not a promise that every module runs for every cohort. Families can ask which choices are available now, how places are allocated and whether there are additional costs or timetable commitments.
Queenstown Secondary School
Queenstown Secondary began in 1956 as an all-boys technical school, initially using Jalan Eunos School before moving to Strathmore Avenue in January 1957. It admitted girls in 1971 and adopted its present name in 1993. After using a temporary Commonwealth Avenue site during rebuilding, it returned to Strathmore in 1997. The new building and QUEST Museum opened officially in 1999. This history explains the technical references in its crest and school song; it does not mean today’s pupils follow the former technical-school curriculum.
The June 2026 FutureLearn page explains that the school integrates its Applied Learning and Learning for Life programmes around environmental sustainability, community youth leadership and digital literacy, supported by maker education. S1 examples include Lower Seletar Reservoir field learning; S2 explores alternative energy and prototypes. S3 pupils work in teams on a community capstone project and can choose topics based on their interests. Published examples include promoting hawker culture. Overseas immersion is described for selected pupils, so it should not be treated as an entitlement for every child.
