How to choose between them

Both are solid West zone schools with a genuine STEM identity, not just branding. Jurongville opens the door wider with a COP starting at 14 and more DSA pathways, while Regent suits a student who already knows tech is their thing.

Consider Jurongville Secondary School if…

  • Lower entry COP gives more students a real shot
  • 5 DSA areas and hands-on electronics ALP stand out

Consider Regent Secondary School if…

  • Emerging Technologies ALP feels forward-looking and focused
  • Smaller CCA slate often means tighter, more committed communities

If your child is borderline on scores, Jurongville is the pragmatic choice; if they are set on a tech identity from day one, Regent delivers that focus.

Get to know each school

Jurongville Secondary School

Jurongville and Hong Kah Secondary both received their first Secondary 1 pupils in 1994. They merged in January 2019 after the decision was announced in April 2017. The merged school retained Jurongville in English and 丰嘉中学 in Chinese, with a refreshed uniform and crest drawing on both communities. This matters when reading older accounts: a pre-2019 experience of either constituent school is not automatically a description of the present merged school.

The ALP, Real-World Learning Through Electronics, introduces Secondary 1 and 2 pupils to electronics and coding through drone activities, block-programmed robots and creating online games. Upper-secondary options described on the page include Electronics, Smart Electrical Technology and short polytechnic learning modules, matched to strengths and interests. Pupils with a stronger interest may represent the school in STEM competitions. The distinction is useful: the lower-secondary exposure is broad, while specialised subjects, external modules and competition places require separate consideration.

Regent Secondary School

Regent Secondary opened in 2000 at Unity Secondary School before moving to 50 Choa Chu Kang North 5 in 2001. MOE records a concert-band niche in 2013, an underwater-robotics Applied Learning Programme in 2014 and community and youth leadership as its Learning for Life Programme from 2016. The current ALP page identifies resource sustainability as the focus from 2024. Families should therefore distinguish historical robotics descriptions from the programme described for today’s pupils, rather than assume the earlier provision remains unchanged.

The resource-sustainability ALP links food and water issues with subjects including English, Geography, Science, Mathematics and Nutrition & Food Science. Published examples include interdisciplinary learning journeys, student-initiated learning during home-based learning and cohort VIA projects with community partners. A second tier offers external forums, competitions and conservation advocacy. These are described opportunities, not confirmation that every pupil takes every trip or competition. ALP is non-examinable, so parents can ask how projects fit alongside assessed subjects and how specialist opportunities are allocated.
