How to choose between them
KCP is the heritage pick with a wider academic range and richer CCA ecosystem, while Peicai punches above its size with a genuinely distinctive Applied Food Science programme. Both sit in the South zone, so the real question is what your child is drawn toward.
Consider Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School if…
- Wider COP range means more students find a fit here
- 12 DSA areas and 26 CCAs give more pathways to shine
Consider Peicai Secondary School if…
- Applied Food Science ALP is rare and genuinely career-adjacent
- Smaller school often means more individual attention and ownership
If your child has a passion that maps to one of these ALPs, let that be the tiebreaker.

Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School
Kuo Chuan’s history begins with Katong Girls’ School in 1924. Presbyterian Boys’ and Kuo Chuan Girls’ schools merged in 1985, then reorganised into separate primary and secondary schools in 1987. The secondary’s history recalls the 2024 centennial and revival of a House system across the two schools. That shared identity does not make the two stages interchangeable. Reviews about primary reading programmes, for example, cannot establish the secondary’s classroom experience. The school describes its present purpose in terms of servant leadership and scholarship, grounded in its Christian founding tradition.
The media-literacy ALP follows a published progression: Secondary 1 podcasting and video production, including a geography visit at Ang Mo Kio–Bishan Park; Secondary 2 talk-show scripts and storyboards in the Mustard Seed studio; and Secondary 3 journalism for the half-yearly magazine Espoir. Spin Doctors adds workshops, speaking and writing competitions and hosting school events. Infocomm and Photography Club members can develop production or photojournalism further. The club extensions are membership-based, while the level descriptions explain the broader ALP sequence. Families interested in media can ask what work pupils produce and how feedback is given.

Peicai Secondary School
Peicai Secondary was established in 1984 from Parry Secondary and Hwi Yoh Secondary, initially using the latter’s facilities. The school says its name combines the Chinese names of its two predecessors and means nurturing talents. Its current ALP pages describe Seek. Make. Advocate, while MOE’s school-history body still describes The Science of Food. The current school publication is used for the programme account below; the older description is not silently treated as the same curriculum. Past programmes and predecessor memories need their own dates and context when comparing with today’s school.
Seek. Make. Advocate was co-created with SUTD for Secondary 1–2. The common tier uses blended learning, coding, video editing and data analytics to investigate social causes, with Microbits or augmented reality among the tools for prototypes. Themes named include mental wellness and animal welfare. Selected project groups then pitch to the community and explore implementation with organisations. Those pitches are a further opportunity, not proof that every prototype is adopted or that all pupils work with an external partner. Programme aims such as resilience are not independently measured results.
