How to choose between them
Both are solid South Zone co-ed schools, but they serve different kids. Outram's wider COP range means a more mixed academic peer group, while Queensway's stronger arts track record and extra DSA pathways make it the pick for creative or talent-driven students.
Consider Outram Secondary School if…
- 120-year heritage signals deep school culture and stability
- Wider COP attracts a broader, more academically diverse cohort
Consider Queensway Secondary School if…
- Two SYF Distinctions show a genuinely strong performing arts programme
- Four DSA areas give talent-driven students more admission pathways
If your child has a clear talent or passion, Queensway's extra DSA options could open doors that matter more than any ranking.

Outram Secondary School
Outram Road School opened on 26 February 1906 as a primary school. It became a secondary commercial school in 1954, admitted girls in 1958 and took its present name in 1961. The move to York Hill followed in 1968. For 2026, new Sec 1 pupils enter the Anchorvale campus in Sengkang, while pupils enrolled before the relocation remain at York Hill until the end of 2027. The principal’s current message discusses operating both campuses. Older descriptions of York Hill facilities therefore should not be assumed to describe a new pupil’s campus.
The Anchorvale open-house site identifies Business and Enterprise as its ALP, using practical projects and industry collaboration. This continues a long connection with commercial education: MOE records a Business and Enterprise centre of excellence in 2007 and the introduction of Business Studies that year. The present open-house text does not give a full year-by-year project timetable or confirm that every pupil takes Business Studies as an examination subject. Families considering this interest should request the current subject options and distinguish cohort ALP experiences from assessed subjects.

Queensway Secondary School
Queensway Secondary opened at Margaret Drive in 1961. MOE’s history describes growth to two sessions and additional classroom blocks as the neighbourhood expanded. Mei Chin Secondary merged with it in 2000 and Buona Vista Secondary in 2001; the upgraded school’s official opening followed in 2003. The history records environmental science and sports-and-outdoor-education signature programmes introduced in 2014. Those are historical milestones: the current July 2026 LLP page instead describes Community Youth Leadership, so an older programme label should not stand in for today’s published curriculum.
The Applied Learning Programme gives all S1 pupils water-treatment learning, energy-from-water activities and a sea-perch construction project for navigation and water testing. S2 content moves to nutrition, food production, innovation and waste management. A separate Tier 2 AI programme covers generative AI, art and coding, and microcontroller applications; its public page does not specify selection criteria or guarantee access to every pupil. These are clearer points of comparison than a general claim that a school teaches sustainability: families can ask what their child will build, test and explain.
