Get to know each school
Evergreen Secondary School
Evergreen Secondary opened in 2000 with 320 students and 12 teaching staff, moving to 11 Woodlands Street 83 in June that year. MOE's history records its North Zone Centre of Excellence in National Education designation in 2003, followed by NE awards in 2004 and 2008. Later developments included communication-based applied learning in 2015 and sports-based learning for life in 2016. These are dated milestones rather than a present-day ranking. They help explain why public communication, citizenship and sport recur in the current programme descriptions.
The current ALP is titled Bilingual Voices, Active Citizens. It links communication in English and Mother Tongue Languages with discussion of real-world and civic issues. Its lower-secondary Music component uses writing and performing raps to help pupils express their perspectives. This gives a concrete classroom activity behind the programme name. The page's introductory claim about musical talent is broader than the detail in its body: it does not establish specialist music tuition, an audition pathway or proven gains in bilingual proficiency for every pupil.
Queensway Secondary School
Queensway Secondary opened at Margaret Drive in 1961. MOE’s history describes growth to two sessions and additional classroom blocks as the neighbourhood expanded. Mei Chin Secondary merged with it in 2000 and Buona Vista Secondary in 2001; the upgraded school’s official opening followed in 2003. The history records environmental science and sports-and-outdoor-education signature programmes introduced in 2014. Those are historical milestones: the current July 2026 LLP page instead describes Community Youth Leadership, so an older programme label should not stand in for today’s published curriculum.
The Applied Learning Programme gives all S1 pupils water-treatment learning, energy-from-water activities and a sea-perch construction project for navigation and water testing. S2 content moves to nutrition, food production, innovation and waste management. A separate Tier 2 AI programme covers generative AI, art and coding, and microcontroller applications; its public page does not specify selection criteria or guarantee access to every pupil. These are clearer points of comparison than a general claim that a school teaches sustainability: families can ask what their child will build, test and explain.
