Get to know each school

Queenstown Secondary School

Queenstown Secondary began in 1956 as an all-boys technical school, initially using Jalan Eunos School before moving to Strathmore Avenue in January 1957. It admitted girls in 1971 and adopted its present name in 1993. After using a temporary Commonwealth Avenue site during rebuilding, it returned to Strathmore in 1997. The new building and QUEST Museum opened officially in 1999. This history explains the technical references in its crest and school song; it does not mean today’s pupils follow the former technical-school curriculum.

The June 2026 FutureLearn page explains that the school integrates its Applied Learning and Learning for Life programmes around environmental sustainability, community youth leadership and digital literacy, supported by maker education. S1 examples include Lower Seletar Reservoir field learning; S2 explores alternative energy and prototypes. S3 pupils work in teams on a community capstone project and can choose topics based on their interests. Published examples include promoting hawker culture. Overseas immersion is described for selected pupils, so it should not be treated as an entitlement for every child.

St. Hilda's Secondary School

St Hilda’s traces its beginnings to Bethel English School, established on Ceylon Road in 1929. Archdeacon Graham White acquired it in 1934 and affiliated it to the Anglican Diocese. The school moved to Tampines and separated into primary and secondary schools in 1988; boys joined in 1989, and the two schools were officially opened in July 1990. In 2012, the secondary school’s Student Activity Centre opened with two indoor sports halls and a rooftop hockey pitch. Its 2024 ninetieth-anniversary programme included 90 Acts of Kindness. These milestones explain the school’s history without implying the primary and secondary curricula are interchangeable.

The iTHink Applied Learning Programme began with Secondary 1 in 2015. Its current description gives a progression: Secondary 1 has weekly Drama in Education lessons involving scripts, improvisation and speaking, plus an oracy project culminating in a podcast. Secondary 2 combines a local heritage learning journey with researched class debates. Secondary 3 brings together Social Studies issue investigation, CCE service and English advocacy in an integrated project. Pupils examine an issue, propose solutions and act on recommendations. These are specified learning activities; the stated aim of producing confident, caring and disciplined leaders is an aim rather than a measured result for every pupil.
